A larger fleet of agents can create more coordination work than it removes. Anthropic is encouraging enterprise teams to evaluate whether one main agent, loading specialized context when needed, can replace some collections of narrowly assigned subagents.
The company describes lower latency and less information loss in some deployments, including a comparison that ran about twice as fast. It also warns that consolidation can break working behavior. Parallel tasks, context limits, and difficult tool selection can still justify separate agents.
The implication for builders is an architecture experiment with measurable acceptance criteria. Compare task completion, cost, latency, and regressions on the same workload before changing a system that already works.
