Anthropic is donating the Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation. The October 22 announcement transfers the project’s name, repository organization, and domain, putting a widely used format for AI agent instructions into shared governance.
Skills package procedural knowledge, scripts, and reference material in a form agents can load when a task needs them. Anthropic says more than 70 platforms have integrated the standard. A neutral home could make those investments easier to carry between competing agent products.
The next test is whether governance produces predictable versioning and useful security guidance. Teams adopting shared skills still need to inspect what they install and decide which actions each workflow may perform.
