Anthropic saying Claude now leads a meaningful share of its own model-development work makes recursive AI progress feel less abstract. Fast Company covered the disclosure that Claude is helping develop the next generation of Claude under human supervision.
That does not mean the model is autonomously replacing researchers, but it does change the slope of the race. Once AI systems accelerate research, evaluation, coding, and debugging inside the labs, capability gains can compound through the tooling used to create the next model.
The practical question is transparency. If labs want public trust, they need to report how much AI is involved in model R&D, what humans still verify, and where self-improvement creates new failure modes.
